Parson’s work has been extensively reviewed, and has been the subject of many feature articles. He has appeared numerous times on television and radio, discussing both his art and the state of the arts. Reviews, features and articles on his work have appeared in many publications, such as the Chicago New Art Examiner, Artspace Magazine, Art Express magazine, American Artist, Plano-Star Courier, Dallas Morning News, The Denver Post, Rocky Mountain News, Westword, Straight Creek Arts Journal, Artweek, Upper Larimer Arts and Times, Detroit Free Press, Miami Herald, Pontiac Press, Icon Arts Journal, The Los Angeles Times, Orlando Sentinel, the New York New Times, Sculptural Pursuit Magazine, to name a few. The most current national article will be coming out this spring with a feature article on his works in the Literary/Arts magazine Porcupine, published in Wisconsin.
Awards are the Denver Art Museum’s Alliance for Contemporary Arts 1999 AFKEY Award. In the mid-90’s he was given the Innovation in the Arts Award from the Colorado Federation of the Arts, a Co-visions Recognition Grant from the Colorado Council on the Arts and Humanities, and was one of the recipients of the Museum Educators of the Year Award from the Colorado Arts Education Association. In the late 70’s throughout the 80’s he received several Best of Westword Awards from the Denver based Arts and Entertainment publication, Westword.
Parson has taught for many years. In August, 2005 he joined the staff of the urban-based Community College of Denver, on the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver. There he is the Senior Chair of the Arts Departments and teaches various visual classes. He also has done a large range of diverse art-related employment activities, including designing and producing exhibits at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, where he is still a contract muralist/illustrator.
Exhibition highlights of the recent past included a 7000 square foot exhibition of drawings, constructions, sculptures and sound installations, both interior and exterior, at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities. He completed a two person exhibit in the Milwaukee area this past summer with painter Mai Wyn Shantz at Artpost Gallery. He is exhibiting exterior and interior works in a one-person exhibit at the Dahl Art Center in Rapid City, South Dakota this spring. He is currently displaying a large exterior sculpture in the City of Greeley, Colorado Public Arts Program as part of their 2006 program. A one-person show of all-new exterior and interior Sculptures and wall constructions and drawings this summer at Artyard Gallery, located in the Denver region. He will be participating in a two person exhibit with artist Lynette O’Kane in Glenwood Springs, Colorado this fall. Parson is currently installing exterior sculptures on his developing Sisu Sculpture Grounds on 35 remote acres in Colorado on a regular basis. He is preparing works for pending shows in 2007 in the New York City region and in the Kansas City area.
Representative large-scale works can be seen in such places as
the two-and-a-half storey tall sculpture, Steeple at Northshore Sculpture
Park in the north section of the Chicago area. Subtended Connection, II
originally seen in Brooklyn now at Stetson University in Florida. In Colorado
a three-story tall sculpture, Earthgate , as well as the 14’ Structural
Underbelly at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities in Colorado.
Additionally the 16’ tall Monument to a Wyoming Rancher sculpture
is on display throughout the year in Greeley, Colorado. He has a 15’
tall exterior work on display in downtown Kansas City’s Stretch Sculpture
Garden. The 15’ work, Frame for a Caret, previously on display at
the Purdue University Campus is currently being installed at the Sisu grounds
in southern Colorado late this summer. More of Parson’s exterior works
can be seen on display in front of the Kirkland Museum and their sculpture
garden as part of their recent acquisitions.
Parson is releasing a reprint of his 2002 book release, The Sanctuary of the Moment this spring and is well into his next book, From the Ground Up slated for release in late 2007. A feature article on his works in the Literary and Arts publication, Porcupine will be available this spring.
